Yoga for Difficult Times

Saturday, November 25, 2017, 11-4pm

There are days (months and sometimes years) when no amount of sun salutations can soothe a heavy heart or ease a troubled mind. When this happens we might ask what yoga has to offer beyond an asana practice.

How can yoga help when we face the death of a loved one, the end of a marriage, the loss of our livelihood, or the pain of illness and growing older? Beyond asana, how can we use yoga to work with feelings of anxiety, depression, grief, and stress?

Drawing on the ancient wisdom of yoga, Erin will guide participants through a practical discussion of how we can use yoga to make sense of pain and suffering. She will then introduce key practices for working with and even transcending suffering. Practices such as mindfulness, non-attachment, and acceptance are powerful tools for difficult times.

Restorative Yoga for Chronic Pain and Fatigue

Sunday, November 26, 2017, 11-2pm

Yoga poses that ask our muscles to move and contract are yang in nature. Yoga poses that ask our connective tissues to relax and lengthen over time are yin in nature. Yoga poses that ask nothing of our bodies except deep rest and healing are restorative in nature.

This special 3-hour workshop will introduce a blend of gentle movement, restorative yoga poses, guided relaxation, and yoga philosophy. The tools and ancient wisdom introduced in this workshop are designed specifically to support students through chronic pain and fatigue. Students will learn poses to address the specific physical and mental challenges they are facing, how to re-create those poses at home, and how to make sense of their challenges using the ancient wisdom of yoga.

This gentle workshop is accessible to all, including those with PICC lines (unless your doctor has specified otherwise).

Space is limited to 15 participants.

Yoga for the Nervous System

Sunday, June 17-Wednesday, June 20, 2018

Improve your quality of life by managing your stress and bringing balance to the energy systems of your body. We all have a mechanism in our biology called “fight or flight” response. This occurs when we perceive a threat, and the body gears itself up to defend itself. If we are in a chronic state of worry and stress, we become energy depleted, both in body and mind.

When you learn about the human nervous system, you can better understand how to keep your body and mind in equilibrium. In this program you’ll explore practical, simple, and efficient techniques to restore balance in your life. With these strategies, you’ll better be able to control your response to stress and use your energy wisely. You’ll practice proper breathing, yoga asanas, and mindfulness to bring calmness and joy to your mind, body, and soul.

Your investment: This program is offered through the Sivananda Bahamas “Yoga Vacation Program” (YVP) and is included in the YVP fee.
Location: Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas, Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas
